PRESS: Watchdog may slap economic measures against YouTube
MOSCOW, Feb 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service is considering measures against U.S. video hosting service YouTube for consistent blocking of channels of the country’s media, Izvestiya daily reported on February 5.
“Economic limitations stipulated by the Federal Law ‘On the Activities of Foreign Entities on the Information and Telecommunications Network Internet on the Territory of the Russian Federation’…are considered as the measures,” the daily said.
Such economic restrictions as a ban on advertisements, search services, limitations of payments and transfers of money may also apply.
The watchdog said in November that it had registered over 50 facts of censorship of Russian media – Sputnik, RT, and Anna News more frequently – and their official accounts by foreign Internet resources since 2020.
